What Will Emergency AC Service Cost?
Cooling failures vary too much for an honest contractor to quote a generic repair price before determining what is wrong.
Integrity uses a diagnostic/service charge for the initial visit. It covers the technician’s visit, initial safety evaluation, inspection and diagnostic work needed to identify the likely cause of the cooling problem and explain the next step. We intentionally keep that initial charge small.
If an evening, weekend, holiday, travel, access or other unusual circumstance changes the applicable charge, we explain it before you agree to the visit. No hidden fees. No surprise charges.
After diagnosis, the technician explains what failed, the available options and the proposed price. Nothing beyond the agreed diagnostic/evaluation proceeds without your authorization.
For a qualifying repair diagnosed and performed by Integrity, the diagnostic/service charge is credited toward the repair, up to the repair amount. If a part must be ordered and Integrity returns to complete the repair, the credit still applies. If replacement becomes the appropriate path and you purchase the replacement system from Integrity, the diagnostic/service charge may be credited toward that replacement as well.
What is Considered an AC Emergency?
A cooling problem becomes more urgent when the home has lost air conditioning completely, indoor temperatures are rising quickly, outdoor heat or humidity is severe, the system repeatedly shuts down or occupants are especially susceptible to heat.
Common reasons to request priority AC service include:
- An air conditioner that will not start or stay running
• An AC system running continuously without providing useful cooling
• A heat pump that will not cool in cooling mode
• A frozen evaporator coil or ice on refrigerant lines
• A thermostat calling for cooling with no system response
• Repeated breaker trips or electrical shutdowns
• Abnormal mechanical or electrical noises
• Water leaking or overflowing because of a condensate problem
If the problem involves smoke, fire, active sparking, electrical danger or signs of heat illness, follow the safety instructions above before requesting ordinary HVAC service.
For routine or non-urgent air conditioning problems, see our air conditioning repair service.
No AC in Alexandria? What to Check First
Before scheduling service, make these checks without opening equipment or bypassing safety controls.
- Confirm the thermostat is set to COOL and below the current room temperature.
• Make sure the thermostat has power and replace batteries if your model uses them.
• Check that the HVAC power switch has not been turned off.
• Visually inspect the appropriate breaker. If it has tripped, one reset may be reasonable. If it trips again, stop resetting it and request service.
• Check an easily accessible air filter for severe blockage.
• Make sure supply and return vents are not closed or obviously blocked.
• Look for heavy debris or vegetation restricting airflow around the outdoor unit.
Do not open electrical cabinets, handle refrigerant components, bypass float switches or other safety devices, chip ice from coils, dismantle equipment or repeatedly reset a system that keeps shutting down.
Keeping the Home Safe Until Service
Close blinds or curtains against direct sun, reduce oven and other heat-producing appliance use, stay hydrated and use air conditioning elsewhere when possible if indoor temperatures continue climbing.
Fans may improve comfort at lower indoor temperatures but should not be relied on when the home becomes dangerously hot. Consider a cooling center, air-conditioned public space or another safe cooled location, especially for infants, older adults and people more susceptible to heat.
Check heat-sensitive occupants regularly. If anyone develops confusion, loss of consciousness, seizures or other signs of possible heat stroke, call 911.
Emergency Central AC Repair in Alexandria VA
Integrity Duct & HVAC Services provides priority central AC repair in Alexandria, VA and Northern Virginia.
An air conditioner that will not start, runs without cooling, short-cycles, freezes repeatedly, shuts down unexpectedly or produces weak airflow may have several possible causes. The problem can involve a failed capacitor or contactor, blower motor, condenser fan, compressor, thermostat, control board, condensate drain or float switch, refrigerant leak, evaporator coil or restricted airflow.
One symptom does not equal one diagnosis.
For example, a frozen coil can result from poor airflow, a severely restricted filter, blower problems or a refrigeration-system issue. A system that repeatedly short-cycles may have an electrical, control, airflow, temperature or equipment problem. Proper diagnosis matters before replacing parts.
Repeatedly resetting a breaker or cycling a failed air conditioner can temporarily hide a recurring electrical, airflow or mechanical problem and may worsen equipment damage. If the unit will not operate normally after basic thermostat, filter and power checks, stop cycling it and have the system diagnosed.

Emergency Heat Pump Repair in Alexandria VA
Integrity Duct & HVAC Services provides priority heat pump repair for summer cooling problems in Alexandria, VA and Northern Virginia.
Heat pumps use many of the same refrigeration components as central air conditioners but also use a reversing valve and additional controls to switch between heating and cooling. A cooling-mode failure can therefore involve the refrigeration circuit, controls, airflow or electrical components.
Persistent warm air, heavy ice that does not clear, an outdoor unit that remains inactive while the thermostat is calling for cooling, recurring electrical shutdowns, condensate problems, short-cycling or abnormal compressor or fan noises may require service.
A technician may evaluate refrigerant pressures and temperatures, the reversing valve, compressor, outdoor fan, indoor blower, thermostat signals, metering components, condensate controls, airflow and electrical components to determine what is actually happening.
Heat-pump diagnosis is especially important because replacing an electrical component will not correct a refrigeration, airflow or reversing-valve problem that produces a similar symptom.

Emergency AC Service Across Alexandria and Northern Virginia
Integrity Duct & HVAC Services is based in Alexandria and serves homeowners throughout Alexandria and established Northern Virginia service areas, including Arlington, Springfield, Annandale, Fairfax, Falls Church, Kingstowne, Franconia and Old Town Alexandria.
Cooling problems can look different across the region’s housing stock. Historic Old Town properties may have limited mechanical space, older duct layouts or ductless equipment. Townhomes, condos and newer homes around Kingstowne and Franconia can present different airflow, zoning, condensate-drainage and equipment-access challenges. Alexandria’s summer heat and humidity often make those weaknesses more obvious when cooling demand peaks.
Our technicians are trained and certified HVAC professionals who diagnose cooling failures in Alexandria and Northern Virginia homes. Integrity’s current credentials include Virginia Class A Contractor licensing, a Master HVAC license and NATE-certified technicians. We evaluate the cooling system as a whole, including electrical components, controls, airflow, condensate management and the refrigeration circuit, before recommending a repair.
