What Will Emergency Heating Service Cost?
Heating failures vary too much for an honest contractor to quote a generic repair price before determining what is wrong.
Integrity uses a diagnostic/service charge for the initial visit. It covers the technician’s visit, initial safety evaluation, inspection and diagnostic work needed to identify the likely cause of the heating problem and explain the next step. We intentionally keep that initial charge small.
If an evening, weekend, holiday, travel, access or other unusual circumstance changes the applicable charge, we explain it before you agree to the visit. No hidden fees. No surprise charges.
After diagnosis, the technician explains what failed, the available options and the proposed price. Nothing beyond the agreed diagnostic/evaluation proceeds without your authorization.
For a qualifying repair diagnosed and performed by Integrity, the diagnostic/service charge is credited toward the repair, up to the repair amount. If a part must be ordered and Integrity returns to complete the repair, the credit still applies. If replacement becomes the appropriate path and you purchase the replacement system from Integrity, the diagnostic/service charge may be credited toward that replacement as well.
What is Considered a Heating Emergency?
A heating problem becomes more urgent when the home has lost heat completely, indoor temperatures are falling quickly, outdoor temperatures are low, the system repeatedly shuts down or the occupants are especially susceptible to cold conditions.
Common reasons to request priority heating service include:
- A furnace that will not start or stay running
- A furnace blowing cold air
- A heat pump running without providing useful heat
- A heat pump covered in heavy ice that does not clear normally
- A thermostat calling for heat with no system response
- Repeated breaker trips
- Abnormal mechanical or electrical noises
- A heating system that cannot maintain reasonable indoor conditions during cold weather
If the problem involves gas odor, smoke, fire, a CO alarm, sparking or another immediate danger, follow the safety instructions above before requesting ordinary HVAC service.
For routine or non-urgent heating problems, see our heating repair service.
No Heat in Alexandria? What to Check First
Before scheduling service, make these checks without opening equipment or bypassing safety controls.
- Confirm the thermostat is set to HEAT and above the current room temperature.
- Make sure the thermostat has power and replace batteries if your model uses them.
- Check that the HVAC power switch has not been turned off.
- Visually inspect the appropriate breaker. If it has tripped, one reset may be reasonable. If it trips again, stop resetting it and request service.
- Check an easily accessible air filter for severe blockage.
- For a heat pump, look for obvious snow or debris blocking the outdoor unit.
- For a high-efficiency furnace, visually inspect accessible exterior intake and exhaust openings for blockage.
Do not open electrical cabinets, adjust gas components, bypass safety devices, perform refrigerant work, dismantle equipment or repeatedly reset a system that keeps shutting down.
Keeping the Home Safe Until Service
If you have a compatible heat pump with an emergency-heat setting, that mode may provide backup electric heat, although it generally uses more electricity.
If you use a portable electric space heater, keep it at least three feet from combustible materials, plug it directly into a wall outlet and do not leave it running unattended or while sleeping. Never use an oven or stovetop to heat the home. Never operate a grill, charcoal appliance or portable generator indoors.
During a hard freeze, protect vulnerable plumbing. If indoor temperatures continue falling to unsafe levels, consider moving infants, older adults or other cold-sensitive occupants to a warm location.
Emergency Furnace Repair in Alexandria VA
Furnace diagnostic service in Alexandria, VA
A furnace that will not ignite, starts and stops repeatedly, runs the blower without producing warm air or shuts down on a safety control may have several possible causes. The problem can involve the ignition system, flame sensing, inducer operation, airflow, limit controls, the blower, thermostat, control board, electrical components or venting and combustion.
One symptom does not equal one diagnosis.
Repeatedly resetting a furnace can temporarily hide a recurring electrical, airflow or safety problem. If the unit will not operate normally after a basic thermostat and power check, stop cycling it and have the system diagnosed.

Emergency Heat Pump Repair in Alexandria VA
Winter heat pump inspection and repair service in Alexandria, VA
Heat pumps behave differently from gas furnaces in cold weather. Supply air can feel cooler than furnace air, the outdoor unit may temporarily enter a defrost cycle, steam can appear during defrost and auxiliary heat may operate during colder conditions. Those behaviors can be normal.
Thick ice that never clears, persistent cold air, an outdoor unit that remains inactive while the thermostat is calling for heat, recurring electrical shutdowns or abnormal auxiliary-heat operation may require service.
A technician may evaluate the defrost controls, reversing valve, compressor, auxiliary heat strips, thermostat signals, airflow and electrical components to determine what is actually happening.
